The “Write Winning Grant Proposals” workshop presented by Grant Writers’ Seminars & Workshops has helped bioethics researchers write successful federal and foundation grants. The Association of Bioethics Program Directors (ABPD) sponsored this workshop on October 18, 2017 to support junior faculty members who are writing grants, senior faculty members who are writing/mentoring grants, and postdocs embarking upon grant writing. The program addressed both practical and conceptual aspects that are important to writing competitive grant proposals. The session focused on National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant mechanisms, but the tips and strategies for good proposal writing are applicable to all funding agencies.
The workshop also included an extended lunchtime panel discussion specific to Bioethics grants. Panelists are Bioethics grant reviewers who will discuss lessons learned related to writing Bioethics grants. Panelists included:
- Amy McGuire, JD, PhD, Baylor College of Medicine Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy. Dr. McGuire is a member of the Greenwall Review Committee.
- Susan Peterson, PhD, MPH, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX. Dr. Peterson is a member of the Societal and Ethical Issues in Research NIH Study Section.
- Benjamin Wilfond, MD, Seattle Children’s Hospital and Research Institute. Dr. Wilfond is a member of the Societal and Ethical Issues in Research NIH Study Section.
